Our Chinese Money Frogs, also known as Chan Chu (which means frog or toad), wealth frogs, feng shui money frogs, or feng shui three legged toads are an ancient and popular Chinese symbol for prosperity. According to one ancient Chinese legend, the Money Frog was originally a woman and the greedy wife of one of the Eight Immortals. She stole the Elixir of Immortality from the Goddess of the West, Hsi Wang Mu, and in retribution for her crime the Gods transformed into a three legged toad and banished her to the moon.
Said to be the bearer of good fortune, Money Frogs appear every full moon and are usually depicted with two strings of coins tied behind their back and holding a lucky Ching Dynasty gold coin in their mouth. According to feng shui lore, Money Frogs are believed to drive away evil, protect wealth and increase income.

To attract good fortune you treat them like frogs (respectfully of course) and not like deities, so they can be placed on a low table, but not on the floor. They can also be placed in other isolated or protected places, BUT if they are placed too high, they might be afraid to jump down and go out to look for money. And never keep or place a Money Frog in the bedroom, kitchen, bathroom or on a toilet.
To invite constant cash flow and double the income of homes, Money Frogs are traditionally placed in the corners of the living or family rooms to enhance wealth Chi of the household. The corners of a room is a focal point where Chi, or positive energy gathers and is traditionally believed to be "wealth luck" of the household. They should be placed diagonally across from the entrance to a room and some inward facing, but never facing straight out of the door because they will leave and never return. You can have as many as nine money frogs, but the most favorable numbers are one, three, six or nine.
For prosperity in business, Money Frogs should be placed in a wealth corner (the furthest back left corner of a room or building), near (but not facing) a cash register, in the shop's or store's reception area, treasurer's desk, safe, or any part of the premises which deals with money and customers.
Our Money Frogs are the perfect gift for the frog collector, or just to add a bit of feng shui decor to your home or business. But no matter what the reason you invite them into your life, they are sure to add a bit of good luck and whimsy to any space.
